Siri working on your older devices!

We’ve managed to get the fantastic Siri working on the iPhone 4 and have been told that this solution will also work on other older devices (but not the iPad).
This solution does also not require any access to the iPhone 4s keys as it does not use the Apple servers to process your request.
We were a little sceptical as many other proxy servers have arisen claiming Siri functionality and struggle when numerous users begin using the servers, however we’ve had great success using the method you’ll see below and speedy response times.
Process

1.) You will first need to jailbreak your iPhone, we accept no responsibility for you jailbreaking your iDevice, however there are great guides on iclarified.com.

2.) When you’ve jailbroken your iPod you’ll have to install the Spire application from Cydia and the Big Boss repository. This will take a little while to install as its a large package.

3.) Following the installation of Spire you will need to reboot your device and then install a security certificate. Go to http://connect.grwh.net/ca.pem on your device and you will be prompted to install the security certificate. Ignore the warning and install.

4.) When you have installed the security certificate you will need to go into your settings – general – Siri and turn Siri on. There is also one very important additional step here, you MUST change your language to English (us) or the assistant will constantly tell you it doesn’t understand.

5.) Next go to settings, scroll down and you will find the Spire icon. Open the setting and enter your proxy host as One of the following…

Server 4 https://connect.grwh.net:1004

Server 5 https://connect.grwh.net:1005

Server 6 https://connect.grwh.net:1006

Server 9 https://connect.grwh.net:1009

Server 10 https://connect.grwh.net:1010

It took us a little while to get the servers working but we had success with the first server. You also cannot use the full range of commands as the Apple servers allow but you can use a large number of commands such as…

set an alarm for HH AM/PM <[word 1] [word 2] [word 3]>

Will Siri work on the iPhone 4

We’ve been asked numerous questions about the new Siri feature released with the iPhone 4S and whether the feature will be available on earlier models of iPhone such as the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS.

There’s some good and bad news.

Lets starts with the bad.

Apple have solely released the Siri personal assistant with the iPhone 4S. This basically means that when you use the Siri Personal assistant application, data is sent to the Apple servers that validates the device it was received from is in fact an iPhone 4S. This seems to make Siri on the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS improbable.

However let’s share the good news with you.

A number of innovative hackers have explored the feasibility of Siri on other devices and have successfully ported Siri onto the iPhone 4, iPod touch and iPad. Although it is not yet talking to the Apple servers, the developers believe that this is a certainty and will be achieved in the near future. So perhaps the possibility of Siri on other devices is a distinct possibility, however the legality of running the app on devices other than the iPhone 4S is unclear.
